How much do you tighten the motor pulley? Tell it can't go anymore?

I've been doing appliance repair for 32 years. I will tell you that there are some things you can check with a digital meter and some things you can't. This particular two-wire magnetic field clutch part, you have to test it with an analog meter, the kind of meter that has the needle dial. The digital meter will not read the resistance. I just discovered that today. I tested one today with a digital meter and the parts stores digital meter and it would not read. We then tested it with an analog needle reader and it tested good. The problem was that the teeth on the bottom part of the motor and the splutch or clutch part were messed up. Replaced those two, and it worked perfectly.

It would be nice if you showed people how to test the clutch to confirm it's bad before they go and replace it.

Thank You! Just replaced my element after I tried from the front and the cable fell off. Seeing your video gave me the courage to pull the oven out (let my wife clean the 15 years of collected dirt and other gunk), take off the cover - power and gas were off but did not disconnect the power cord, and attach the element inside the oven, go to the back, and clip on the wires as you showed. 15 minutes and saved over $100. House hasn't burned down yet. Thanks again.

Great Video only problem is you’re doing this to a brand new machine where everything comes apart easily. My machine is older. It took a half an hour just to get the tub out because it was seized on the shaft. had to use penetrating oil light tap with a hammer, while pulling up it took a half an hour to get the tub out, other than that everything else was a breeze.

I just did this repair on a 9 year old Whirlpool Cabrio. It's pretty simple when you follow along with the video. The clips for the control panel were farther back than I thought they would be from the video, but once I figured that out it was easy to remove. My washer has 3 metal clips along the inside lip to hold the latch mechanism wire instead of one. Wearing thick gloves seemed important when removing and reinstalling the wire from these clips as they were stiff and sharp. I have a load of laundry going now. Super happy to have saved a ton of money fixing this myself.

This is awesome! Thank you for sharing this. How often would you recommend replacing your drain hose? Mine seems good with no visible wear and tear, but I noticed when I took it off that the water inside smelled really, really bad.

I have a question for you regarding the "overflow" switch float itself. As you know the small rod that connects "float" to the lever to the micro switch, goes through a round opening. This opening for me is allowing a small amount to water the flow to the floor. I have seen the water come down through this opening. The float should not be allowing the water to get high enough to get throght that hole. Splashing should also not allow water to get under the float. I have checked the micro switch and I can hear it clicking on and off when i lift the float. The float is free to move. The gasket under the float is secure. I think this is a design issue. Never saw it before because I think the sound insulation was catching it and it was so little that it never got to the floor. Have you seen this before and if so how did you fix it? Thanks

my clips to remove the control panel were too hard to access from the top. Instead I lifted the entire top part up first and then was able to push those clips up from the bottom. Two tips: after pulling the top towards the front, i was unable to lift it straight up. I had to lift up a little, slide toward the back, and then was able to tip it fully back and up. Final tip: there are tabs that you can rest it on and slots that fit into the tabs, that way while it is up and leaning back the top is somewhat supported.

Be careful removing a capacitor because it can hold a lethal electrical charge indefinitely even when not connected to a power source. If you accidentally short it with a screwdriver when removing it can discharge violently.

I so need some help!!! My Whirlpool Washer #WTW4616FW1 on spin cycle makes this sound like a jet engine taking off; quiet to super loud but with no grinding noise. I thought it was the bearings until lastnight i took my entire washer apart and ran into not being able to get access to the bearings due to the gear box being all welded closed. I dont know what my next steps are that would diagnose my washers problem to get it back to working condition....People are telling me its the bearings, but i cant get to the bearings, & told them even on the whirlpool website that sells my washers parts, it doesnt even have replacement bearings listed....Im going to wait until i hear from you before i do anything major like ordering wrong parts and putting it back together & it still doesnt work...lol Thanks & look forward to hearing back from you!

When reattaching my new drive shaft to the frame , my screw holes appear to not be threaded. Am I "rethreading " the holes from the top with the screws to cut new threads or do I have a factory defect??

  • @Esteb858

You reinstalled the bottom hinge backwards because the lip of that hinge is going into the door and bending. That lip on the hinge should be facing away from the bottom of the door. You can reference the part in the video when you first removed it at 1:38 and see the orientation was different. Other than that nice video and thanks for the explanation.
